Donald J. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, announced on Wednesday that he would select his pick for vice president shortly before the Republican National Convention in July.
Speaking to Fox 6 Milwaukee, the former president said: "I'll be picking, but probably not too much before the convention, which I happen to be having in the great state of Wisconsin."
The Republican National Convention will be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from July 15 to 18. It is tradition for the vice presidential candidate to address the delegates on the evening before the conference ends.
With potential VP contenders rapidly falling and rising day by day, it's been hard to determine who exactly Trump has in mind to be his running mate.
South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem was among the contenders, but reportedly lost her chance after she revealed in her book that she killed her dog named Cricket after luring him out to a gravel pit and shooting him dead, according to the New York Post, which cited allies close to the 45th president.
Two former presidential candidates are also allegedly out of the running, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who informed donors in February that he would not be Trump's vice president, and tech billionaire businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, who has recently surged in popularity.
But in the political world, things could still change.
So, who are Donald Trump's leading contenders?
Bloomberg reported on Thursday that the former president has narrowed it down to four people, including North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina.
However, the Trump campaign fired back at the report.
Trump senior adviser Brian Hughes said in a statement, according to the New York Post: "Anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump."
Chris LaCavita, another senior adviser, also weighed in on the scoop and wrote on X: "Notice to reporters: you should not make these kind of assumptions and then commit them to paper … they will only come back to bite you in the ass."
