A new poll indicates that 54 percent of Americans think that the country is less united now under President Joe Biden than before, whereas 37 percent of voters in the poll disagree. The Fox News poll released Sept. 19 shows a general and gradual decrease in the public's confidence in the Biden administration.

Americans who are still positive about the Biden administration mainly cited the president's COVID-19 response, with 25 percent of those surveyed indicating this as the main reason why they approve of the job Biden has been doing.

Other reasons Americans polled tend to support the commander-in-chief are "General positive" at 19 percent, "Better than Trump/Not Trump" at 15 percent, and "Presidential behavior" at 9 percent.

On the other hand, Americans with opposing views had a quite different set of reasons for not approving of the Biden administration, with "Incompetence/Poor leadership" being the reason 22 percent of the time. Other common answers for disapproval include the botched Afghanistan exit at 19 percent, a blanket "Doing a bad job" at 13 percent, the economy at 8 percent, vaccine mandate/COVID-19 response at 8 percent, and illegal immigration/border crisis at 7 percent.

A full 19 percent of Americans also criticized Biden's mishandling of the complete withdrawal of US troops from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, which led to the tragic deaths of 13 US service members.

The Fox News poll conducted between Sept. 12 through Sept. 15 includes interviews among 1,002 registered voters nationwide who were randomly selected from a national voter file and spoke with live interviewers. "Results based on the full sample have a margin of sampling error of + or - 3 percentage points," according to the Fox News poll's detailed methodology.
