Bari Weiss to continue release of Twitter Files on new media platform 'The Free Press'

"We place a special emphasis on subjects and stories that others ignore or misrepresent. We always aim to highlight multiple perspectives on complicated subjects. And we don’t allow ideology to stand in the way of searching for the truth."

Journalist Bari Weiss founded a new media company, the Free Press, which launched its online presence on Thursday, the same day Weiss tweeted out the second installment of the "Twitter Files,"

According to the company's announcement, "The Free Press is a media company built on the ideals that were once the bedrock of journalistic enterprises: honesty, doggedness, and fierce independence. We publish investigative stories and provocative commentary about the world as it actually is—with the quality once expected from the legacy press, but with the fearlessness of the new."

Bari Weiss resigned from the New York Times in July of 2020 and wrote, "truth isn't a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else" at the outlet.

The Free Press technically began in January of 2021 with a newsletter and grew into "a 21st-century newsroom" without active marketing. The outlet has "a quarter of a million subscribers hailing from all 50 states and more than 30 countries," that have found the outlet mostly through word-of-mouth.

"We place a special emphasis on subjects and stories that others ignore or misrepresent. We always aim to highlight multiple perspectives on complicated subjects. And we don’t allow ideology to stand in the way of searching for the truth," the announcement read.

The genesis of the site came "As the gap between what we’re allowed to say in public and how we talk in private grows, so does our distrust—in power, in the press, and in one another."

Political bias infiltrating newsrooms was a significant factor in the Free Press' origin.

"At some point, you might have noticed that what you were reading didn’t reflect what you were seeing with your own eyes," the announcement read. "At some point, maybe you noticed that the people paid to tell you about the world as it is were instead telling you about the world as they wished it to be."

"We didn’t realize there are millions of people who want to discuss hard things out loud, who want to seek the truth rather than the comfort of a political team or tribe—people who want journalism they can trust, and who are eager for their own perspectives to be challenged."

The Free Press has reported on the "ideological takeover of American medicine" and "exposed how schools are indoctrinating even our youngest children into a belief that racism is everywhere and that biological sex doesn’t exist."

They have covered experimental gender transition surgeries on teenagers, Canada's euthanasia laws, and how many scientists have failed to "follow the science."

They also tout lesser-known stories such as the "real story of the Central Park Karen."
