On Tuesday, the National Archives and Records Administration revealed that nine boxes of documents had been found in the Boston office of President Joe Biden's attorney, Patrick Moore.
The material was moved north from the Penn Biden Center in Washington, DC prior to NARA's initial request to pick up boxes of documents from the think-tank in November 2022.
NARA revealed the information in response to a letter penned by Sens. Ron Johnson and Charles Grassley in February.
The agency explained that when they contacted Biden's personal counsel on November 3 "to arrange to pick up boxes from the Penn Biden Center in Washington, DC," it was informed that Moore had "moved other boxes from the Penn Biden Center to [his] law firm in Boston."
NARA went on to note that it wasted no time in referring the matter to the Office of Inspector General, informing them of the extra boxes on November 4. NARA staff picked up the nine boxes on November 9 and transported them to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston.
The agency stated that while it was unsure exactly when Moore transported the documents to his office, Biden's legal team had begun reviewing materials at the Penn Biden Center in October. NARA noted that it "has not reviewed the contents of the boxes found at Mr. Moore's Boston office" despite having the boxes since November.
This is just the latest development in Biden's ongoing classified document debacle. In January, news broke that material from the president's time as second in command had been discovered in his office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington DC.
In the weeks that followed, more classified documents were found in various locations frequented by the president, including the garage of his home in Delaware.
House Republicans have since launched an investigation into the matter, and a special counsel was appointed by the Justice Department to review Biden's handling of the material.
