A gunman opened fire on a teenage rowing team from Oakland competing in a regatta in Sacramento, California.
The 9 teenage boys on the Oakland Strokes were rowing in a race on the Sacramento River when gunfire rang out. The students, aged 15 to 16, were competing in the final leg of the regatta at approximately 1:30 pm on April 20.
In a video taken by one of the parents, obtained by KTVU, three gunshots can be heard accommpanied by three splashes in the water just a few feet from the boat.
Fred Ackerman, a parent of one of the teens, told the outlet, "I was pretty shocked. I think all of us were. It's horrifying, to think in this peaceful, green setting, the final push of this race - to see and hear that."
He added, “No one saw the shooter. There were dozens and dozens of people, there were boaters and people walking around on the trail. Police don't know where the shots came from, but they do know it was a gun."
Thankfully, no one was injured, but the shooter is still on the loose.
West Sacramento police have been investigating the shooting and asked anyone who saw or heard the incident, or who may have video of it, to contact them.
