UPDATE: at the poll's conclusion on Monday, 57.5 percent of users voted "Yes" to Musk stepping down. 42.5 percent voted "no." The poll received 17,502,391 votes.

Elon Musk posted another poll to Twitter, this time to determine whether or not he should stay in place as CEO of Twitter.

"Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll," he wrote. At the time of writing, the poll results are not yet in.

As the poll continued, Musk posted "As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it."

It was assumed that "he already has the new CEO picked out," to which Musk replied: "No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor."

Musk has run several polls over since taking over Twitter, and has abided by those polls. These included whether or not to allow Trump back on the platform, and when the results were overwhelmingly in Trump's favor, Musk tweeted out that he would be back on the platform, with the missive "vox populi, vox dei." Musk has given the people the power on the social media platform.

Musk put up a poll on November 19 asking his fellow users whether or not Trump should be allowed back on the platform. After an astounding 15 million votes in 24 hours, the majority of Twitter users voted in favor of restoring the former President's account.

On December 15, Musk banned dozens of journalists from the platform for “doxxing” Musk in “real time,” the billionaire posted a poll to gauge user sentiment on the decision. The results came in, and Musk announced the accounts would be reinstated.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
