Elon Musk will begin the process of firing Twitter employees this Friday according to a company-wide email that was distributed today. The social media company, which is home to 7,500 employees has been bracing for layoffs since the Tesla magnate and meme master took over pledging to restore free speech to the platform.

"Twitter employees were notified in the email that the layoffs were set to begin. ... Workers were instructed to go home and not return to the offices on Friday as the cuts proceeded. The message, which came from a generic address and was signed 'Twitter,' did not detail the total number of layoffs," according to The New York Times.

Earlier this week, Musk dissolved Twitter's Board of Directors and became the "sole director" of the company.

Musk made waves upon acquiring the company by immediately getting rid of the censorious CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and notorious enemy of free speech Vijaya Gadde, who served as Twitter's top lawyer and colluded with Democrats to censor conservatives.

In a letter to advertisers, Musk wrote that Twitter is "important to the future of civilization," stating that it is a "common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence."

Must continued: "Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences."

"In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature."
