The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a ground stop for three airports in the Carolinas located in Wilmington, North Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as the Chinese surveillance balloon that entered US airspace on January 28 drifts closer to the Atlantic Ocean.
As CNN reports, the Biden administration also "restricted airspace near Myrtle Beach between 12:45 pm and 2:45 pm ET. for 'national defense airspace.'"
A statement from the FAA read, "The FAA has paused departures to Wilmington (ILM), Myrtle Beach International (MYR) and Charleston International (CHS) airports to support the Department of Defense in a national security effort."
The Temporary Flight Restriction covers "about 140 nautical miles wide, or about 20,000 square miles" and orders all aircraft to stay on the ground.
Fox News reports that Biden said on Saturday he was going to "do something" about the balloon.The Daily Mail reports two American fighter have been circling the balloon.
