The Ford government announced today that it will not mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for health care workers.

According to Colin D'Mello of CTV News, the Ford government pointed to cancellations "of surgeries and diagnostic tests from staffing shortages due to vaccination mandates."

A similar proposal by Quebec had to cancelled. Two weeks ago, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dube announced that the province would push back its deadline for healthcare workers to get their two doses of vaccine by thirty days. The initial deadline set by the province stood at October 15.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Dube said that the province will do away with the mandate altogether.

The Quebec government initially said it intended to suspend without pay the roughly 15,000 healthcare workers who remain unvaccinated.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
