Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) released a scathing letter to House Judiciary chief Jerry Nadler denouncing the Biden administration's handling of the border crisis.

"The humanitarian and security crisis on our southern border is the direct result of President Biden's abrupt reversal of President Trump's successful immigration policy," Jordan's letter begins. "The Judiciary Committee... cannot ignore this crisis.

"Because Democrats refuse to act, we write to notify you that Committee Republicans intend to travel to the southern border in the coming weeks to hear directly from individuals affected by the Biden border crisis."

The US-Mexico border has experienced an unprecedented surge in migrant crossings, especially of unaccompanied minors, since President Joe Biden was sworn in to office in January.

Many of these migrants have been packed into overcrowded border facilities, which are off-limits to the public and journalists. Despite the gag order on reporting, some images and footage have made their way out of the border facilities, depicting scenes reminiscent of the "kids in cages" photos which shocked Americans during the Trump administration.

Democrats have blamed former President Trump for the crisis, arguing that he created the inhumane conditions for immigrants currently stacking up in border facilities.

Republicans, meanwhile, have argued that the fault lies squarely with the Democratic Party, which they say has promoted rhetoric of open borders, thereby encouraging migrants to flow across the border even while the United States lacks the infrastructure to process them.

Republicans point to amnesty policies supported by the Biden administration, a temporarily blocked executive order issuing a moratorium on deportations, and general rhetoric originating from administration officials telling migrants that they should come to America, but just not "now."

"President Biden's and [DHS] Secretary Mayorka's radical policies have caused the crisis at the border," Jordan asserted in agreement with his fellow Republican colleagues. "Each day seems to bring a new shocking revelation about how the crisis is worsened by the Biden Administration's failure of leadership."

Explaining why Republicans will be traveling to the southern border to inspect the ongoing situation, Jordan wrote that "[because] you refuse to convene a hearing to address the crisis... Republican members are compelled to take matters into our own hands."

Jordan stated that the Republican Representatives on the committee will be making use of committee funds to financially support their trip to the border.

"We welcome any Democrat colleagues on the Committee to join us," he wrote.
