Speaking at an NBC town hall on Thursday night, President Donald Trump committed to a "peaceful transition of power." Leftist media outlets have been claiming virtually since the beginning of his presidency that should Trump lose the election for his second term, he would not hand over the White House so easily.

Tonight he laid those fears to rest, saying that "They talk about the peaceful transfer, right. They spied on my campaign and they got caught, and they spied heavily on my campaign. And they tried to take down a duly elected sitting president. And then they talk about 'will you accept a peaceful transfer,' and the answer is yes I will. But I want it to be an honest election, and so does everyone else."

It was in on September 23 that Trump was asked at a White House press conference if he would accept a peaceful transfer of power, and he said "we'll have to see what happens."

He has maintained that he believes he will win the election for a second term, and that there will not have to be a transfer of power, because his administration will stay in office.

While presidential elections have been contested in the courts, most notably in the final moments of the Al Gore/George Bush contest of 2000, there has never been a president who refuses to let go of power.
