A new poll shows that the targeting of Steve Bannon and James O'Keefe are seen as politically motivated by a majority of voters.

On Thursday, Rasmussen released the results of a new poll, wherein 1,000 Americans were asked whether they thought the FBI and Department of Justice had "become political weapons against President Joe Biden’s opponents."

The question arose following the targeting of conservative strategist Steve Bannon and Project Veritas journalist James O'Keefe. The former turned himself in to police after refusing to cooperate in an investigation into the January 6 riot, and the latter had his home raided by the FBI after allegedly stealing President Biden's daughter's diary.

According to the survey, 55 percent of respondents saw the targeting of Bannon as politically motivated, while for O'Keefe that number was 52 percent. Least likely to see the cases as having political motives were strong supporters of President Biden. Of respondents who said they "Strongly Approve of Biden’s job performance as president," only 12 percent agreed that Bannon was targeted for political reasons, while that number rose slightly to 17 percent in the case of O'Keefe.

The survey also found that a majority of Americans, 64 percent , think it's important that the FBI and DOJ stay out of politics, while 9 percent said it is not. Respondents under 40 were "significantly less likely" to fall into the former category.
