While taking part in the Drag Isn't Dangerous telethon this past weekend, actress Marcia Gay Harden revealed that all three of her children landed somewhere on the LGBTQI+ spectrum.

The Oscar-winning performer said she stood firmly with the modern gender movement, suggesting any criticism of the community was "reductive" and would put children at risk.

"This is such a crazy question," Harden said when cohost Adam Shankman asked her why she was such a vocal ally for the LGBTQ community. "Why are we even having to do this, to advocate for human beings, and lifestyle, and imagination, and creativity?"

Harden revealed that above all, she was driven by her children, all of whom are "queer."

"My eldest child is non-binary, my son is gay, my youngest is fluid," she explained, "and you know, they're my kids and they teach me every day."

Harden went on to note that as a "liberal mom," she went out of her way to protect her children from the "reductive" attacks she said have "only invigorated" them to "fight harder."

The actress' children, who she shares with ex-husband Thaddeaus Scheel, have all followed in their parents' footsteps, appearing in numerous films. While her eldest son, Hudson, has been outspoken about his sexual orientation for years, the other two, Eulala and Julitta, have kept a lower profile.

In 2019, Harden and Hudson appeared together on a talkshow hosted by drag performer RuPaul. She celebrated Hudson's identity, and noted that she could tell from a young age that he was gay.

"Most people, when they give birth," she said, "assume their kids are straight. It's an assumption. It's based on whatever. When Hudson began watching RuPaul, I was like 'Oh, I should've known.'"

She went on to suggest that Hudson's comments on a nice couch and hair products were proof enough that he was not straight.
