McCloskeys pardoned by Missouri Governor over last year's viral incident

Mike Parson promised to pardon the St. Louis couple “without a doubt” last year.

At the end of July, Missouri Governor Mike Parson pardoned the McCloskey couple who waved their guns at protesters last year.

The way Associated Press describes it is Parson making good on a promise he made to the couple in the first place.

For when that vow was made, we turn to a Sean Hannity interview from last year.

"I will do everything within the Constitution of the State of Missouri to protect law-abiding citizens and those people are exactly that. They are law-abiding citizens, and they're being attacked frankly by a political process that's really unfortunate," Governor. Mike Parson told the host.

The decision to pardon the pair was made alongside ten other pardons, and two commutations of sentences by the Missouri Governor’s office.

In a statement from the McCloskeys’ lawyer, Joel Schwartz, to the AP: “Mark McCloskey has publicly stated that if he were involved in the same situation, he would have the exact same conduct. He believes that the pardon vindicates that conduct.”

It was mid-2020 that saw Mark and Patricia McCloskey face charges for misdemeanor assault and harassment in light of their viral encounter with a gaggle of George Floyd rioters who broke through their house’s gate to protest them.

They faced the indictment of a grand jury. But just as well, the McCloskeys got attorney Kim Gardner dismissed from the case, in the months preceding a plea deal arrangement as the outcome to the episode.

According to the Washington Post, Mark McCloskey pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault at a $750 fine, while his wife Patricia pleaded to misdemeanor harassment for a $2000 fine.

It inspired Mark McCloskey to run for Missouri Senate on a “no nonsense” platform. In his own campaign promises this is made clear as Mark describes last year’s incident as when “an angry mob marched to destroy my home and kill my family, I took a stand to defend them.”

Mark and Patricia got new guns to replace what the authorities originally made them forfeit.
