Moms for Liberty smeared as 'threat to democracy' for upholding parental rights

Because Moms for Liberty disagrees with Democrat platforms and policy positions, Rhodes claims that the group "could seriously damage civil liberties."

It turns out Democrats thought they had a monopoly on democracy, and as such, any time there's an opposing view to that of the Democrats, they actually believe that those views are a threat to democracy itself. Such is the case with Moms for Liberty, targeted by Christopher Rhodes, a Harvard lecturer, in Al Jazeera as, yes, a threat to democracy itself. Rhodes isn't the only one who has attempted to smear the group, NBC has taken a turn as well.

To understand why, it's important to understand what Moms for Liberty, headed by Tiffany Justice, are doing and why. The group was founded by moms who wanted a say in when schools would open after pandemic-inspired closures, who wanted to have input on masking in schools, as well. Soon they will be holding a National Summit so that more parents and families can join their group in taking a "stand against the ongoing government encroachment on parental rights that seeks to drive a wedge between parents and an entire generation of America's youth."

These moms started to really see what was being taught to their children, as remote schooling took the place of in-person while Covid-19 spread across the country. And what they found was that the education of American children was not just lacking, but was actually damaging and harmful to kids. Critical race theory, gender ideology, and social, emotional learning, they found, was horning in on territory that should have been reserved for academics. Meanwhile, test scores, along with proficiency in mathematics and literacy, were tanking.

They're not only advocates for education from outside the system, but working on running in local school board elections, and getting other concerned parents to run as well.

"Moms for Liberty members are embracing what is very best about democracy," co-founder Tiffany Justice told The Post Millennial. "American Moms know that government does not work well without our involvement. We watched as the 'expert class' failed our children during covid and we will never allow our voices to be ignored again. Who better to serve in elected office than parents?"

But Rhodes states that Moms for Liberty is a "rapidly growing non-profit" that is "carrying the most radical elements of modern US conservatism to the mainstream."

Is it radical to want your children to attend school in person? To not want them to have to wear a face mask while learning? To want children to not be encouraged to believe that they are born in the wrong body? Or to oppose teaching children that their value stems from their skin color? These are the issues Moms for Liberty are fighting over.

But for Rhodes, "the veneer of respectability and benevolence that comes with the image of 'concerned mothers' is in fact a thin veil for a broader and more sinister movement. Moms for Liberty is an offshoot of the far-right movement that has come to dominate modern American conservatism, with its tactics representing a dangerous shift in strategy for this movement." This is just a complete fabrication.

Rhodes claims that Moms for Liberty targeted a school board member in Florida, accusing her falsely of child abuse. A report from Florida Today shows that it is unknown who made the false claims. The school board member, Jennifer Jenkins, was protested over mask mandates, as well. Jenkins blamed Moms for Liberty, but there's no evidence of that at all.

Rhodes complains that parents rights group was in favor of Florida's Parental Rights in Education bill, which attempts to stop activist teachers from indoctrinating kindergarteners through 3rd graders in gender identity, and teaching them about adult sexual practices.

Rhodes uses the language of the Democrat party to blast Moms for Liberty, equating parents using their rights to influence the education of their children with prejudice and "anti-democratic forces," and links the group to a host of Democrat-labeled boogie men like QAnon, Proud Boys, Oathkeepers, and others.

Because Moms for Liberty disagrees with Democrat platforms and policy positions, Rhodes claims that the group "could seriously damage civil liberties, shut down political discourse and further weaken the democratic institutions that have been under attack in recent years."

Democracy is not the purview of the Democrat party. Moms for Liberty believes power belongs to the people, a core tenet of democracy, and their advocacy for parents, children, and families only speaks to their dedication to the future of America.
