Parents of murdered Idaho student '1000%' sure ex-boyfriend didn't kill their daughter

"They're wasting their time with Jack. And Jack is just as distraught as we are. Jack is our family. Jack is 1,000 percent. 2,000 percent our family, and Jack is with us, and we stand behind him 100 percent."

There have been new developments in the murder of four University of Idaho students early in the morning on November 13, as the parents of 21-year-old Kaylee Goncalves, Kristi and Steve Goncalves, say their daughter's ex-boyfriend, 26-year-old Jack DuCoeur, did not commit the crime.

Speaking to Lawrence Jones on Fox News, Kristi Goncalves said "They're wasting their time with Jack. And Jack is just as distraught as we are. Jack is our family. Jack is 1,000 percent. 2,000 percent our family, and Jack is with us, and we stand behind him 100 percent."

"We are supporting him, and we know in our hearts and our minds and our souls and the depths of our soul, Jack is hurting. Kaylee and Jack would have eventually been married. They would have eventually been married, and they would have eventually had children," Kristi said of the pair that was broken up at the time of her daughter's death.

Kaylee, along with another victim, 21-year-old Madison Mogen, reportedly made 10 phone calls to Jack between 2 and 3 am on the night of their murders. Kaylee's sister, Alivea, first made that discovery, telling Inside Edition "Kaylee calls Jack six times between 2:26 am and 2:44 am," and "From 2:44 to 2:52 Maddie calls Jack three times, then Kaylee makes a final call to him at 2:52 am." Reports are that the four were stabbed to death between 3-4 am Sunday morning.

In Inside Edition's report, there was no mention by the outlet or Alivea that Kaylee had an ex-boyfriend named Jack.

On November 13, the bodies of 20-year-old Xana Kernodle, her boyfriend 20-year-old Ethan Chapin, along with Mogen and Goncalves were found butchered to death after police responded to a report of an unconscious person at a rented home on King Road in Moscow, Idaho. No arrests have been made yet.

Chief of Moscow police James Fry said the crime is believed to have been a "targeted" attack but noted, "We need to be aware. The individual is still out there" adding, "We cannot say there is no threat to the community."

According to the Daily Mail, "local sleuths on Facebook have connected the killings to the story of a man who found his neighbors' dog skinned alive just two miles away from where they were last seen."

According to the Idaho Tribune, "online sleuths" had also connected the murder of the students to the "fatal stabbing" of a sleeping couple from Marion County, Oregon in 2021.

Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt confirmed to CBS News that the Idaho students were stabbed to death, described the attacks as "personal," and that the murder weapon, which has still yet to be found, "would have had to be a large knife." It was further revealed that Idaho police were on the hunt for a "Rambo"-style, Ka-Bar-style knife.

Two other roommates who were unharmed, Bethany Funke and Dylan Mortensen, have been cooperating with authorities and are, at the moment, not considered suspects.

Reports indicate that the group of friends had been out socializing but authorities believe all four of the murdered students had returned to the house by 1:45 am.

Mogen and Goncalves were at a bar in the town and were seen with a man at a food truck. That man has been identified and is cooperating with police. The pair were then driven home by a "private party" according to Fox News.

Police initially said that the two made it home via an Uber. According to Inside Edition and Buzzfeed, Alivea took credit for discovering the "Uber driver" who took her sister and Mogen home.

However, as the Daily Mail reports,  it was not an Uber driver, but a "mystery individual" who picked them up from the food truck. Police are searching for that individual.

Photographs released on Wednesday showed blood oozing out of the side of the house where the crime happend, seeming to confirm investigators' descriptions that the crime was among the most gruesome they have ever seen and that there was "blood everywhere."
