A protest in Minneapolis over the death of Winston Smith turned deadly on Sunday when a woman was killed after a car drove into a group of protestors.

It was around 11:40 am at Lake Street and Girard, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, that the car plowed into the crowd, striking a woman fatally. The driver was pulled from the car by protestors, and was assaulted before police were able to apprehend him.

The suspect was arrested, and three other injured protestors were taken to the hospital for treatment. The suspect was also taken for medical treatment.

Smith was shot on June 3 when US Marshals Fugitive Task Force attempted to arrest him on an open warrant on charges of being a murder suspect as well as a "felon in possession of a gun," according to Fox News.

According to a statement from the Marshals Service, Smith did not comply with Marshals when he was approached inside a parked car, and "produced a handgun resulting in task force members firing upon the subject." A woman who was with Smith at the time denied that there was a firearm present.

It was at that point that sheriff's deputies opened fire, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and Smith was shot and killed. Investigators for the state said that Smith, too, fired his gun, stating that both a handgun and spent cartridges were located in the vehicle.
