A Georgia-based voter registration nonprofit founded by Stacey Abrams and dogged by allegations of financial impropriety called for a “National Day of Action Against Police Terror” on Tuesday.

On Sunday, far-left extremists attacked a future police training facility in Atlanta, Georgia, nicknamed "Cop City." The group, most of whom were dressed in black bloc, set fire to construction equipment and attacked police officers. 23 people, including a member of the Southern Poverty Law Center, were arrested and charged with domestic terrorism in connection with their involvement in the incident.

On Tuesday, Abrams’ non-profit the New Georgia Project announced on Twitter, “This Thursday, March 9th at 6 pm ET, NGPAF activists and partners will be in Atlanta marching to #StopCopCity as part of the National Day of Action Against Police Terror.” The flyer featured the organization's logo alongside those of other radical activist groups.

The accompanying flyer stated, “Demand justice for Tyre Nichols and Tortuguita.”

Tyre Nichols was a 29-year-old black man who died after being allegedly beaten by five black Memphis Police Department officers, which was captured on bodycam.

In January, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies conducted a raid on the so-called autonomous zone at the site of the future Atlanta Public Safety Training Center which has been occupied by Antifa and other far-left extremists from across the US since June 2021 to prevent the construction of what they call a "cop city." According to the GBI, a Georgia State Patrol trooper was shot and severely injured during the raid, allegedly by 26-year-old Manuel Esteban Paez Teran, who went by the alias "Tort" and "Tortuguita,” and was one of the campers in the area. Officers returned fire and killed the gunman.

Following the shooting, Antifa members took to the streets of Atlanta to throw rocks at and light fires outside of the Atlanta Police Foundation after the now-suspended Atlanta Forest Twitter account called for a "night of rage" following the shooting.

According to Fox News, The New Georgia Project founded by former Democratic gubernatorial nominee Abrams received almost $500,000 in COVID-19 bailout money during a year its donations grew by tens of millions of dollars.

There were other financial discrepancies such as the group reporting that it paid $0 in payroll taxes, the Washington Examiner reported.

In August 2022 according to the Georgia Recorder, the state's ethics commission ruled that the nonprofit and its affiliated action fund likely bypassed financial disclosure laws by not reporting millions in election-related spending, including advocating for Abrams during her failed 2018 gubernatorial run.

Though the New Georgia Project's donors remain hidden, the Marguerite Casey Foundation, another Abrams-affiliated nonprofit, reported two grants totaling $100,000 as part of a multi-million voting rights funding effort in 2020.

Fox News also reported that Abrams joined the Marguerite Casey Foundation's board in 2021 and backed a campaign to increase anti-police funding from the foundation, whose president, Carmen Rojas, has repeatedly called for defunding and abolishing the police.
