Three Toronto teenagers have been arrested in connection with an armed carjacking and robbery. The incidents took place on May 4 and 5, respectively, in north Toronto and the York region.
Two of the teens, ages 15 and 17, were hit with eleven charges each, while the third, a 14-year-old, faces ten.
According to the Toronto Police Service, a 911 call was placed on Thursday, May 4 warning of a person with a gun in the area of Finch Avenue West and Weston Road.
Witnesses stated that an elderly person had been sitting in their vehicle when they were approached by three suspects, one of whom was toting a gun. He allegedly pointed the weapon at the senior, demanding the keys to the vehicle.
The trio eventually "forcefully removed the victim from the vehicle, ripping the victim's shirt and removing their necklace during the struggle," before fleeing the scene in the stolen vehicle.
The next day, a robbery was reported at a pharmacy near Highway 7 and Maycroft Avenue. According to the TPS, two of the three aforementioned suspects allegedly entered the pharmacy while the third waited outside in the stolen vehicle.
Inside, they "went behind the pharmaceutical counter and while armed with firearms, made demands for narcotics." The suspects allegedly "obtained a quantity of narcotics" before once again dashing away.
Later that day, a TPS officer spotted the vehicle with the three suspects inside. They were driving "at a high rate of speed," and eventually crashed into an electrical pole. Officers promptly apprehended the teens, and took them into custody. The stolen narcotics were also recovered, along with a "sawed-off shotgun."
All three teens were subsequently charged with two counts of robbery with a firearm, two counts of disguise with intent, unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offense, and a slew of other gun-related charges. Two of the suspects were also charged with three counts of failure to comply with their release order.
