As 2021 draws to a close, loose ends in the case of George Floyd are wrapping up, with the latest deveopment being whether or not the state of Texas would pardon the deceased black man for drug offenses committed in 2004.

While receiving unanimous backing, the Texas board withdrew Floyd's application over "procedural errors."

"In February 2004, Floyd was arrested in Houston for selling $10 worth of crack in a police sting, and later pleaded guilty to a drug charge and served 10 months in prison," the Associated Press summarizes.

According to the governor's office, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott didn't have the opportunity to consider the application in time. The board withdrew it before he had the chance to look it over.

As said by Abbott press secretary Renae Eze:

"Among the recommendations withdrawn was one concerning George Floyd. The Board will review and resolve procedural errors and issues related to any pending applications in compliance with their rules. As a result of the Board's withdrawal of the recommendation concerning George Floyd, Governor Abbott did not have the opportunity to consider it. Governor Abbott will review all recommendations that the Board submits for consideration."

The page shared the withdrawal request letter from the board, submitted last Thursday.

George Floyd's death and the conviction of Derek Chauvin has recently been brought up once again following Thursday's conviction of Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter. As the Chauvin trial was ongoing, Potter mistook her gun for her taser during a traffic stop where officers pulled over Daunte Wright.

Potter was found guilty by a jury of manslaughter charges over Daunte Wright's shooting death. Elsewhere this month, Chauvin recently pleaded guilty to civil rights violation charges over Floyd's death.
