"Remember this, it was just two years ago, we had the fewest border crossings in decades because the Trump administration was enforcing the immigration laws," the governor continued. In June, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed in a press conference that "the border is closed."
However, the Biden administration's actions align more with a border that is open.
When President Biden took office in 2021, he reversed a number of Trump-era border policies, and announced plans for a more humanitarian approach to illegal immigration. It is estimated that nearly 5 million illegal aliens have entered the US since Biden took office.
Gov. Abbott's statement comes as he faces criticism from Democrats for not harboring illegal immigrants, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez saying that he should step down from his position after he successfully bussed another 100 migrants to DC. In total, more than 7,400 migrants have been bused to the nation’s capital, and over 1,500 have been sent to New York City, according to the governor’s office.
