Trudeau government wants law to combat coronavirus misinformation despite spreading it themselves

You just knew this was coming. The Trudeau government is considering a law to make it illegal to “knowingly spread misinformation that could harm people” during the coronavirus crisis.

According to CBC, Privy Council President Dominic LeBlanc says “he is interested in British MP Damian Collins's call for laws to punish those responsible for spreading dangerous misinformation online about the COVID-19 pandemic.”

LeBlanc has apparently already discussed this initiative with Justice Minister David Lametti.

NDP MP Charlie Angus wholeheartedly agrees with the proposed measure: "This is not a question of freedom of speech. This is a question of people who are actually actively working to spread disinformation, whether it's through troll bot farms, whether [it's] state operators or whether it's really conspiracy theorist cranks who seem to get their kicks out of creating havoc."

Shockingly, the CBC uses British MP Collins as an expert on the matter of misinformation despite the fact that he refers to the theory that the coronavirus originated in a Wuhan lab as a “conspiracy theory,” contradicting mounting evidence that this may be the case. The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that State Department cables warned of safety breaches at a Wuhan lab that was studying coronaviruses in bats.

Many journalists and politicians were smeared as “conspiracy theorists” for simply suggesting that the origin of the coronavirus may have been in a Chinese lab. Yet now the theory is being touted as viable by mainstream media outlets.

Early reports could very easily have been labelled misinformation simply because the Trudeau administration didn’t want to believe it.

The proposed law, which would be modelled after “hate speech” laws is a problematic prospect to say the least.

Consider this: The Trudeau government has been a major source of coronavirus misinformation since the pandemic took hold and halted the economy and our lives. Heavily relying on official guidance from the WHO, an organization that has been exposed as a corrupt subservient of the Chinese government, the Trudeau government has consistently given Canadians bad advice and put the country in harm’s way.

Recently, Canadians were told not to wear masks for their own safety. The Trudeau government did not implement any travel bans or quarantines from hotspots, falling in line with the WHO’s guidance that travel bans were not effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Health Minister Patty Hadju also defended China’s dubious coronavirus numbers.

Just last week, Justin Trudeau made the erroneous claim that Canadians had tested more people for coronavirus in total than the United States. At the time, Canada had tested over 300,000; the US had tested 2 million.

The truth is, if a law against coronavirus misinformation were to be enacted, the biggest offender would be the prime minister.
