Former President Donald Trump posted to Truth social this week, where he said that there was "no way" that Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk was going to buy Twitter at "such a ridiculous price."
"There is no way Elon Musk is going to buy Twitter at such a ridiculous price, especially since realizing it is a company largely based on BOTS or Spam Accounts. Fake anyone? By the time you get rid of them, if that can even be done, what do you have? Not much?" said Trump.
"If it weren't for the ridiculous Billion Dollar breakup fee, Elon would have already been long gone. Just my opinion," he continued," but Truth Social is MUCH better than Twitter and is absolutely exploding, incredible engagement!"
Trump has been a vocal observer of the situation between Elon Musk and Twitter. Musk recently stated that he would reinstate the former president back onto the platform, with Musk having signaled over many occasions that the platform was in desperate need of a free speech overhaul.
"I would reverse the permanent ban," Musk said. "I don't own Twitter yet. So this is not like a thing that will definitely happen, because what if I don’t own Twitter?"
"Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts… I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump," Musk said at FT Live's Future of the Car conference, according to CNBC.
Trump was banned by the social media platform in the wake of the riot at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He said in a statement to Fox News that he had no interest in Twitter, and that he would be sticking with Truth Social.
Trump’s statement comes as Musk’s Twitter deal has reportedly been placed on hold temporarily due to fake accounts.
"Twitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5 percent of users," Musk wrote on Friday.
Musk clarified in a following tweet that he is "still committed to acquisition."
