On Saturday evening, 35-year-old William Hale of Georgia and 43-year-old Floridian Frank Allison allegedly shot each others' daughters during a fit of road rage.

Both men were arrested and charged with attempted murder, but were released just hours later on $150,000 bond.

According to CNN, Hale and Allison were engaged in a "cat and mouse" chase as they made their way northbound on Highway 1 just outside Jacksonville, Florida. The two men were "driving erratically" and brake-checking each other on the road, according to the New York Post.

Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper explained that the situation quickly escalated; Hale pulled up to Allison and started shouting at him, then Allison's wife held up her middle finger, at which point a water bottle was thrown at their vehicle.

In an attempt to "get out of the whole situation," Allison grabbed his Sig Sauer .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun and fired at Hale's vehicle. The bullet struck Hale's 5-year-old daughter in the leg, at which point she started screaming.

In response, Hale took out his Glock 43 9mm, also semi-automatic, pointed it at Allison's vehicle, and "shot everything that was in the magazine — seven or eight rounds." One of the bullets hit Allison's 14-year-old daughter in the back.

Seeing that things were getting out of control, both the men's wives called 911 and officers soon pulled the pair over. Instead of attending to their daughters, however, Hale and Allison "got out and started arguing and fighting."

Eventually, officers were able to break things up, and the two dads returned to their families.

Bodycam footage from the scene shows Allison standing over his daughter in distress as an officer administers care for what was later determined to be a collapsed lung.

Hale stood shirtless as he was read his Miranda rights and arrested.

Leeper slammed the dads for their reckless behavior, saying, "there could have been two dead kids because of two stupid grown men."

“What is scarier than one crazy driver with a gun?” he asked. “Two crazy drivers with a gun."
