The El Paso border was heavily armed with Mexican military and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) offers on Sunday when “at least 1,000” migrants failed to rush through the checkpoint.

CBP “implemented port hardening measures” that included the use of concrete barricades and fencing, according to the Daily Mail.

Officials suggested that the large group of migrants approached the international line, “posing a threat to make mass entry.”

The footage revealed that the majority of those attempting to cross the border were young men, but there were women and children scattered throughout the mass of migrants.

There is also footage that shows migrants making their way past the Mexican side of Paso Del Notre bridge, which reportedly forced CBP to put up barricades of barbed wire and other physical barriers in an effort to stifle the crossings.

The use of barricades was also deployed around Stanton Bridge and the Bridge of the Americas by CBP officials. The same officials were also armed with batons and riot shields, according to the report.

There were others who attempted to take a more rugged route, attempting to cross into the US by trudging through the river.

Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, said that “[t]his is the type of event that doesn’t help them (migrants),” according to KTSM.

The sudden surge of migrants on Sunday comes after the US experienced a sudden plummet of illegal crossings since December.

An explanation for the decrease in border crossings came after President Biden announced in January that Mexico would take Nicaraguans, Haitians, Cubans, and Venezuelans under a pandemic-era rule that prevents migrants from seeking asylum in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to the report.

However, Biden’s administration has said that it would admit up to 30,000 migrants from these countries if they applied online, entered through an airport, and provided evidence that they have a financial advisor.

Biden has come under fire by fellow Democrats who believe that his border policies are reminiscent of former President Trump's policies, with Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) suggesting that if Biden's administration pursues their current path on aslym-seekers, "I am afriad that the president will become the Asylum Denier-in-Chief."
