Across the US, parents with infants are taking to social media and pleading for media coverage as the country's baby formula shortage continues to worsen.

"Target baby formula shelf. We are sending 40 Billion to a far-off war while our babies go hungry. No serious country would act in such a manner," Human Events' Jack Posobiec said.

If the mainstream media can talk about the toilet paper shortage each hour, they should also be talking about the baby formula shortage, one new mom tweeted last week.

"We ended [up] finding the Amazon brand online but not everyone is so lucky to be able to feed that. Please share. This is every store!"

"The baby formula shortage is unreal!" GET THESE BABIES SOME FOOD!" another mom tweeted.

Some parents expressed trouble finding any formula and said delivery is no longer reliable, Fox News reported.

A Michigan mom told Fox News Digital her usual Amazon order for formula was delayed and ultimately canceled on Thursday. She was frustrated to discover there was no formula available in at least four major stores in her area.

FOX 29 reported that retail data firm Datasembly found that 40 to 50 percent of major formula brands were sold out last week in 26 states. The states hit hardest were Iowa, Missouri, South Dakota, Tennessee and Texas, where the highest out-of-stock rate in the nation is in San Antonio at 56 percent.

The baby formula shortage began with ongoing supply chain issues. It's escalated in recent weeks after formula manufacturer Abbott Laboratories recalled its product following the deaths of two infants who reportedly consumed formula made at the company's plant in Sturgis, Michigan.
