Reporter Gabriela Miranda recently resigned from USA Today after an audit of Miranda's reporting found that the journalist fabricated sources, which resulted in the paper removing 23 articles.

USA Today made the announcement Thursday in an article after receiving an external corrections request, which led to an audit of the breaking news reporter's work.

According to the paper, "The audit revealed that some individuals quoted were not affiliated with the organizations claimed and appeared to be fabricated."

"The existence of other individuals quoted could not be independently verified. In addition, some stories included quotes that should have been credited to others," USA Today explained.

Following the investigation, USA Today removed 23 articles from its website and other platforms for "not meeting editorial standards."

The paper said that they strive for accuracy and will work diligently with their employees to ensure their work meets editorial standards.
