Virginia Lt. Governor-elect Winsome Sears, a black woman, slammed columnist Jemele Hill after she called the results of the state's elections "white supremacy."

Following a close race, Republicans Glenn Youngkin and Winsome Sears were declared governor and lieutenant governor of Virginia. Despite the fact that Sears is the first black woman to be elected to that position in the state's history, columnist Jemele Hill wasted no time in criticizing her victory.

"This country simply loves white supremacy," Hill wrote in a tweet.

In response, Sears simply said, "We beg to differ."

Sears immigrated to the US from Jamaica as a child and later went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps. "I'm telling you that what you are looking at is the American dream," Sears declared during her victory speech on Wednesday morning.

Speaking to FOX News, Sears blasted politicians and pundits for their use of race "as a tool" to advance their agendas, urging people to stop looking at race and start focusing on people. "I'm destroying all the narratives about race," she continued, recounting her experience and how she worked hard to get to where she now stands.

Jemele Hill, who has previously said that the US is just as bad as Nazi Germany, that Olympic rules against drug use and swim caps disproportionately impact "athletes of color," and that moderate Democrats refusal to back sweeping, federal, election overall bills was a function of "white supremacy," received pushback on Twitter following her condemnation of Sears.

One user even showed a picture of former Virginia governor Ralph Northam in blackface alongside Sears, indicating how the latter is a symbol of a state moving away from racism of the past.
