Billionaire Elon Musk punched back at CNBC on Tuesday when journalist David Faber questioned him about giving support to so-called "conspiracy theorists" on Twitter, the social media platform that Musk purchased for $44 billion last year.

"You have some tweets that seem to be, or at least give support to, some who others would call conspiracy theorists," CNBC's David Faber said to Musk during a one-on-one interview with the network.

Musk responded, "So many conspiracy theories have turned out to be true."

"Which ones?" Faber asked.

"Well, like the Hunter Biden laptop," Musk replied. "That was a pretty big deal. Twitter and others engaged in active suppression of the information that was relevant to the public."

"That's a terrible thing that happened," Musk explained, adding, "That's interference."

In December, the "Twitter Files" published internal documents illustrating that Twitter had worked alongside US government agencies to suppress accounts on the platform, including many individuals and organizations that had right-leaning views.

It was revealed in the "Twitter Files" that the company suppressed The New York Post's bombshell reporting on Hunter Biden's infamous laptop and that Twitter's former Head of Legal, Police, and Trust Vijaya Gadde played a "key role" in the story’s suppression.

"The decision was made at the highest levels of the company, but without the knowledge of CEO Jack Dorsey, with the former head of legal, policy and trust Vijaya Gadde playing a key role," wrote journalist Matt Taibbi.

Musk was able to use the Hunter Biden laptop story, which was until recently alleged to be "Russian misinformation" as a primary example that the so-called "conspiracy theories" are turning out to be true.
