14-year-old Ontario girl dies after horse gets stuck in marshy bog near Hamilton

A teenage girl has passed away after being trapped in a bog near Hamilton on Monday night, according to police.

The 14-year-old girl was riding on horseback with her mother when they encountered a boggy path that they were not familiar with. The teenage girl and her horse were both stuck in the bog.

According to the Hamilton Police report, the girl dismounted her horse while waiting for help, eventually becoming submerged in the marsh.

After being pulled from the bog, she was brought to hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Her name has not been released. Investigators say both the mother and her daughter were experienced horseback riders.
