Over the past two daily testing periods, there have been 375 new cases of the coronavirus, returning the province to the levels of new infections from a previous peak of two months ago.

190 new cases have been reported the day before yesterday, combined with 185 yesterday, bringing the seven day rolling average to 159 new cases per day.  There is some concern that we will return to April’s numbers, where as many as 640 new cases were reported in a single day. The Ontario Board of health is also still waiting on data from some 30 hospitals for the past two days.

18 of the 34 units have reported no new cases in the past two days. Most of the cases are coming from either Toronto or regions bordering the City of Toronto and part of the Greater Toronto Area.

As of today, there are 54 patients hospitalized for the virus, and of these 54, 17 are in intensive care. The 20 to 39 age group has alarmingly accounted for over half of all new cases. This is a trend that has been confirmed and consistent over the past several weeks.

The province’s total death toll from the virus remains at 2813, with no new deaths having been reported. The total number of cases province-wide this year stands at 43,536. Ontario is currently conducting 45,000 new tests per day on average.

Some Ontario school boards have started their school year, and some people feel that this could be contributing to the upward trend in new cases.

“We are pleading with people in all age groups to continue to stay the course and to be very mindful of the advice that has been given over and over again about crowd scenes, parties and weddings, face coverings, washing and social distancing to make sure that people understand this applies to everybody,” commented Toronto mayor John Tory “Given that we are at both the Stage 3 reopening now and a return to school the time to pay attention to those things has never been more than now.”

Premier Ford called the numbers "very concerning," especially in the GTA and Ottawa regions.

Ford scolded those who were throwing parties and having "international visitors."

"We can't have these parties," said Ford, commenting on a neighbour of his who had thrown a party until 3 am.

"If you aren't quarantining... We're coming after you," stressed Ford, encouraging Ontarians to call police on neighbours who hold large gatherings.
