Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) has now unveiled the first section of the Texas-built part of the border wall on Saturday.

"Texas is taking what truly is unprecedented action: A state to build a wall on our border, to safeguard the sovereignty of our state and of our nation," Gov. Abbott told the public during the Saturday press conference. "Already this year there have been over 1.2 million people apprehended coming over the border illegally."

Abbott has previously committed a total of $3 billion to the project, making the first payment of $250 million available on Jun. 16 2021. The wall is being built on both public and private land, with permission gladly being given to the Texas government by landowners in every case, according to Fox News.

The border wall had been immediately halted by an executive order coming from President Joe Biden on his first day in office. Since that time, migrants have been taking advantage of several blatant gaps in the wall's construction.

Besides the ongoing migrant crisis, illegal drugs such as fentanyl have been flowing into the country at an alarming rate. Gov. Abbott added that, in 2021 alone, Texas law enforcement has confiscated "enough fentanyl to kill every man, woman and child in Texas, California, New York, Illinois, and Florida combined."

"Once [the wall] is completed, it will have multiple detection devices," Abbott continued.

"People we apprehend will be charged with trespassing to the state of Texas, and those charges will lead to them going to jail,"
