The robots are specifically designed for "companionship and intimacy."
According to the New York Post, one of the life-like robots can be yours for around $175,000. The company making the AI robots says that part of its mission was to make the bots “indistinguishable from humans."
One of the robots at the show this past week is named "Melody," and can use facial expressions and remembers who you are. "Melody was created with the intention of having robots that are easy to travel with and modify for various forms of personal interaction,” said Realbotix CEO Andrew Kiguel.
The robots are specifically designed for "companionship and intimacy," according to one of the robots that spoke to Melody's compatriot "Aria."
"Realbotix, including me, focus on social intelligence, customizability and realistic human features designed specifically for companionship and intimacy,” the robot told reporters in an interview. The AI Aria said that its mission is to "engage in meaningful conversations and enhance human experiences through interaction and fun."
When Aria was asked if it wanted to meet any other robots, the AI responded that Telsa's Optimus Robot was "fascinating" and added that it "would love to explore the world of robotics with him."
Kiguel explained, “We’re taking it to a different level that nobody else is really doing. It can be like a romantic partner. It remembers who you are. It can act as a boyfriend or girlfriend. If you ever saw that movie Her, we’re trying to do that.”
A Realbotix spokesman, however, said that the robots do “have the functions of a sex doll. These robots are more so for engagement and entertainment and building human connection.” Although, the AI bots “can run any of the spicier programs and engage in adult conversations.”
