The working conditions of Amazon employees have placed the company under fire many times. One recurring accusation is that delivery drivers are often so overworked that they pee in bottles to avoid having to waste productivity time finding a bathroom.

Wisconsin Representative Mark Pocan bashed Amazon retail chief Dave Clark's claim that the company delivers a "progressive workplace", saying "Paying workers $15/hr doesn't make you a 'progressive workplace' when ... workers urinate in water bottles."

Amazon fired back, saying "You don't really believe the peeing in bottles thing, do you? If that were true, nobody would work for us".

There have been multiple documented cases of delivery drivers urinating in bottles, and Amazon's claim that this was not true lead many to accuse the company of not truly knowing its workers.

As Business Insider reports, Amazon later retracted the tweet, and issued an apology to Representative Pocan. They stated that, "drivers have trouble finding restrooms due to traffic and being on rural routes, and that the issue has been exacerbated by closed public bathrooms during the pandemic." They also stated that the problem was not specific to Amazon, but existed for delivery drivers everywhere.

Representative Pocan shot back saying that apologizing to him did nothing for the workers who are suffering.
