A father was arrested and charged with a felony on Thursday after piercing his son's ear in Arkansas.

In a video that has since gone viral across social media, Tontitown police officers placed Jeremy Sherland, 45, in handcuffs after conducting a welfare check at his home, New York Post reports.

The welfare check was conducted after a school resource officer allegedly overheard Sherland's son tell classmates that his "intoxicated" father placed him into a chokehold and pierced his ear, according to police documents.

Under Arkansas state law, it is a Class D felony to "perform body art on a person under sixteen (16) years of age, regardless of parental consent."

The viral clip posted to TikTok shows police placing Sherland in handcuffs while his son repeatedly shouts in the background, “I wanted my ears pierced."

"Why are you doing this," Sherland's son asked the officers as the chaotic scene unfolded.

Sherland was reluctant to comply with the officers as they attempted to place him into handcuffs, but was ultimately escorted out of the home in a minor struggle with police, and transported to Washington County jail where he spent to nights.

"Officers told Jeremy he was under arrest and explained the probable cause for the arrest. Jeremy refused to comply. Officers then took him into custody," police documents show.

Sherland was released on Saturday after posting a $1,500 bond.
