The lawyer for a man who shot and killed four people during a April, 2019 Penticton massacre has announced their intent to plead guilty to four counts on Monday.

John Brittain, 68, will plead guilty to three counts of first-degree murder, and one count of second degree murder, according to Global News.

Brittain shot and killed Rudi Winter, Barry and Susan Wonch, and Darlene Knippelberg, who were all neighbours with Brittain's ex-wife. The shooting took place just before 10:30 am PST.

Police have yet to say what the motive was. Brittain will enter his guilty pleas in court on October 14.

Only an hour after the first gunshots were heard on April 15, 2019, the then-60-year-old Brittain turned himself into the RCMP, where he remained in custody.

“From an investigative perspective, we are glad that he did that, that the community isn’t on pins and needles,” said Supt. Ted De Jager to reporters at the time.
