Despite the Biden administration's push against states that have passed bills that prohibit gender hormone treatments on children, a recent poll revealed that a large number of Americans oppose the usage of these hormones on minors.

In a YouGov poll published on March 21, and conducted between March 11-15, it revealed that 44 percent of Americans either somewhat oppose or strongly oppose the usage of puberty-blocking drugs on children.

11 percent said they somewhat opposed and 33 percent said they strongly oppose its usage. 17 percent said they strongly supported it, while 12 percent said the somewhat opposed it. An additional 27 percent said they weren't sure.

This varied greatly by political party affiliation, with Republicans being most likely to strongly oppose at 61 percent, and Democrats being most likely to strongly support at 31 percent.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, there are limited research results regarding the physical and mental effects of transgender treatment for children.

Studies on transgender adults have resulted in alarming statistics, with 30-year study in Sweden finding that people who transitioned are 20 times more likely to commit suicide after 10 years.

"Based on a thorough review of the clinical evidence available at this time, there is not enough evidence to determine whether gender reassignment surgery improves health outcomes for Medicare beneficiaries with gender dysphoria," the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said in 2016.

Despite this, the Biden administration has come out in full force against states that have passed legislations blocking this treatment, as well as gender reassignment surgeries, with White House press secretary Jen Psaki saying earlier this month that Alabama and others have been "put on notice" by Biden administration for a law being considered that would ban gender reassignment surgeries on minors.

"But Alabama's lawmakers and other legislators who are contemplating these discriminatory bills have been put on notice by the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services that laws and policies preventing care that healthcare professionals recommend for transgender minors may violate the constitution and federal law," said Psaki in an April 7 press conference.

Alabama signed a bill into law last week banning hormone therapy and puberty blockers being used on children. According to the Washington Free Beacon though, this legislation is already in jeopardy.

In March, the Department of Justice sent out letters to state attorneys on the International Transgender Day of Visibility, informing them that any laws preventing individuals from receiving "gender-affirming medical care" may violate or infringe upon "federal constitutional protections under the Equal Protection Clause and Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment."

Groups like the American Civil Liberties Union have promised to "use the full force of the law" to challenge the Alabama legislation in court.

Steve Marshall, the Republican attorney general of Alabama, told the Washington Free Beacon that his state is prepared to stand up to legal challenges and White House opposition, which he called "predictable and of very little interest to Alabamians."

"It is undoubtedly difficult for the Biden administration, including the Department of Justice, to accept that Alabama is a sovereign state," Marshall told the Washington Free Beacon. "We're prepared to act like it."

The Justice Department has not announced whether it will join the liberal legal groups to challenge the Alabama, or similar laws passed recently in Arizona.

While 19 states have introduced legislation banning hormone treatments for minors, only Alabama, Arizona, and Tennessee are the only ones that have signed it into law.
