CBS published the full transcript of a "60 Minutes" interview with former presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris. The airing of the transcript follows a lawsuit brought against the broadcaster by President Donald Trump, who alleged that the interview was deceptively edited by the network and constituted election interference.

While CBS sought initially to have the case, filed in federal court in the Northern District of Texas, thrown out, they later began. On Monday, CBS gave the Federal Communications Commission an unedited transcript. This came after the FCC asked for it.

The interview as aired by "60 Minutes" back in the lead up to the 2024 presidential election was missing a segment of the interview that had been aired as a preview of the full broadcast. That segment, on Gaza and the war in Israel, showed Harris unable to come up with a cohesive answer as to her views on the conflict. The interview aired later that night, in "60 Minutes" regular time slot, did not contain that segment in full, as the preview had shown. Much of Harris' answer was cut off.

In their commentary on their publication, CBS said "We are posting the same transcripts and videos of our interview with Vice President Kamala Harris that we provided to the FCC. They show – consistent with 60 Minutes' repeated assurances to the public – that the 60 Minutes broadcast was not doctored or deceitful.

"In reporting the news, journalists regularly edit interviews – for time, space or clarity," CBS continued. "In making these edits, 60 Minutes is always guided by the truth and what we believe will be most informative to the viewing public – all while working within the constraints of broadcast television."

In addressing the issue at hand, CBS said "As the full transcript shows, we edited the interview to ensure that as much of the vice president's answers to 60 Minutes' many questions were included in our original broadcast while fairly representing those answers. 60 Minutes' hard-hitting questions of the vice president speak for themselves."

The two clips, one from the preview of the interview which aired on "Face the Nation" and one from the aired interview on "60 Minutes" were shared side by side by the Trump campaign's X account at the time.

The revealed transcript shows exactly what was edited out of the final broadcast.

How the segment in question was edited in the 60 Minutes broadcast.

Many in media took issue with the broadcast, as did the Trump campaign. In response to that outcry, "60 Minutes" said that "60 Minutes gave an excerpt of our interview to ‘Face the Nation’ that used a longer section of her answer than that on 60 Minutes. Same question. Same answer. But a different portion of the response. When we edit any interview, whether a politician, an athlete, or movie star, we strive to be clear, accurate and on point. The portion of her answer on 60 Minutes was more succinct, which allows time for other subjects in a wide-ranging 21-minute-long segment."
