On Friday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) reportedly closed its investigation into former Vice President Mike Pence’s retention of classified documents. He will not face charges.
Multiple sources told Fox News that the investigation into the alleged improper retention of classified documents held at Pence’s Indiana residence from his time within the Trump administration has been closed.
A letter was sent to Pence’s attorneys this week by the Justice Department, saying that the FBI and DOJ have completed the investigation and no criminal charges would be brought against Pence.
In January, amid the discovery of classified documents at Biden’s offices and his Wilmington, Delaware residence, Pence informed Congress and the National Archives that he had discovered documents with classified marking in his Carmel, Indiana home on January 16.
Pence informed the National Archives on January 18 of a small number of potentially classified documents found in two boxes. The Pence team said another two boxes contained copies of vice presidential papers, and all were immediately put into a safe.
Biden has also not faced charges for the retention of classified documents. Trump has faced a lengthy investigation into allegedly keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence, with a raid taking place in August of 2022.
Pence is expected to announce his presidential campaign next week.
