New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh announced today that his informal coalition with the Trudeau government is over.

Toronto Sun columnist Brian Lilley had the scoop Wednesday morning, posting on X: “It’s official, @theJagmeetSingh is leaving his coalition deal with @JustinTrudeau and calling the next election a fight between Singh and @PierrePoilievre Oh, and this letter to the NDP caucus said please don’t share with the media.”

“The deal is done,” Singh posted on X. “The Liberals are too weak, too selfish and too beholden to corporate interests to stop the Conservatives and their plans to cut. But the NDP can. Big corporations and CEOs have had their governments. It's the people's time.”

In the YouTube video Singh says, “Today, I notified the prime minister that I've ripped off the supply and confidence agreement. Canadians are fighting at battle, a battle for the future of the middle class. Justin Trudeau has proven again and again he will always cave to corporate greed,” he said.

“The Liberals have led people down. They don't deserve another chance. There is an even bigger battle ahead, the threat of Pierre Poilievre and Conservative cuts from workers, retirees, from young people, from patients, from families. He will cut in order to give more to big corporations and wealthy CEOs. The fact is, the liberals are too weak, too selfish and too beholden to corporate interests to fight for people. They cannot be the change,” he continued.

"They cannot restore the hope. They cannot stop the conservatives. But we can. In the next federal election, Canadians will choose between Pierre Poilievre callous cuts, or hope, hope that when we stand united … wealthy CEOs have had their government, it's the people's time."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was at a news conference in Newfoundland as the news broke about the agreement ending with the NDP. He ignored the issue until pressed by reporters. But finally said, "I am not focused on politics. I'll let others focus on politics. I'm focused on actually delivering the things that Canadians told me this summer they need. I had thousands of conversations with people across the country. Very few of them wanted to talk politics."

The Post Millennial posted on X: "Justin Trudeau responds to Jagmeet Singh terminating the confidence agreement: “An election will come in the coming year, hopefully not until next fall.”

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre responded to the news on X: "Two years ago, Sellout Singh sold out workers and signed on to a costly coalition with Justin Trudeau that hiked taxes, ballooned food costs, doubled housing costs and unleashed crime and chaos in our once safe streets. In today's media stunt, Sellout Singh refuses to state whether the NDP will vote with non-confidence to cause a carbon tax election at the first chance. Sellout Singh has voted to quadruple the carbon tax to $0.61/L, a plan that will drive Canadians to food banks and grind our economy to a halt— killing hundreds of thousands of jobs."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau remains under pressure from caucus MPs to produce some evidence of change in his government or at least try a cabinet shuffle. There have been calls for him to resign since a byelection loss this summer to the Conservatives in the once-safe seat of Toronto-St.Paul. Trudeau’s Liberals remain about 20 percentage points behind the Official Opposition Conservatives.
