US District Judge Tanya Chutkan partially granted 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s request to halt new substantive filings in the January 6 case while the case is on hold pending a decision by an appellate court on whether Trump has presidential immunity.

Chutkan wrote in a six-page order, "the parties shall not file any substantive pretrial motions without first seeking leave of court," according to The Messenger.

Chutkan did not grant Trump’s request to hold special counsel Jack Smith in contempt for recent filings that were made during the pause in the case.

The judge said that her filing in December pausing the case "did not unambiguously forbid the government’s actions," adding that the filings by Biden prosecutors have mostly been compatible with the purpose of the order.

Chutkan said, however, that her December order "appears to have been interpreted differently" by the parties and required clarification.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
