They claim that since the police took the documents from their home it is their property and they can assign them to whomever they want.

On Thursday in a Tennessee court, the attorney for the Parents of Covenant School shooter Audrey Hale said they intend to assign the rights of Hale's manifesto over to the families of the children killed in the shooting.

According to the Tennessee Star, attorney David Raybin argued that the Hales have the right to their daughter's manifesto and writings. They claim that since the police took the documents from their home it is their property and they can assign them to whomever they want.

If the court finds that the property belongs to the parents, this would bypass Tennessee Public Records law which has determined that the documents are a matter of public interest.

A group of media organizations, including the parent company of the Tennessee Star, are suing to have the records released. The Covenant Presbyterian Church and a group of parents are attempting to block the release of the documents.

Audrey Hale stormed into the private Christian elementary school on March 27 and killed three adults and three 9-year-old children before being fatally shot by police.

The Manifesto is currently in police custody as part of their investigation into the motive for Hale's actions. Lawmakers who were privy to the documents said it is a "blueprint for total destruction."

It was originally announced in April that the documents would be released to the public by May 1. Litigation was filed and has blocked its release pending orders or directions from the court.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
