As primaries for the 2024 election inch closer, a new poll has revealed that former President Donald Trump has a commanding lead over his fellow GOP candidates.

The poll, conducted by Rasmussen, found that 62 percent of Republicans would vote for Trump if the Republican presidential primaries were held today.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received the next highest percentage of support, at 17 percent. While DeSantis has yet to formally announce his run, it has been reported that the Florida leader is expected to launch his campaign in June, foregoing the deployment of an exploratory committee.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, who also has yet to formally announce his run, received six percent support. According to Fox News, a new super PAC has been launched, titled Committed to America, to support his likely run for president and "reintroduce" him "as his own man."

Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, who announced her run for president in February, received five percent support among GOP voters.

Vivek Ramaswamy, who also announced his run in February, received two percent support, and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, who launched his campaign in April, received three percent of the support. Two percent said they would vote for another candidate, and three percent were unsure.

Overall, 37 percent of Americans said they would vote for Trump. 18 percent said they would vote for another candidate, 14 percent said they would vote for DeSantis, and 11 percent said they were unsure.

Notably, among voters who said their political party was "other," Trump has the lead at 34 percent. Voting for another candidate not listed was second, at 17 percent, with DeSantis bringing in 16 percent support.

The poll was conducted by Rasmussen Reports of 996 likely US voters on May 11 and between May 14 and 15.
