Quebec will announce a province-wide lockdown that will bring "8 pm or 9pm" curfews, as cases in the province continue to skyrocket.

According to a report from La Presse, a source within the government says Premier Francois Legault will make the announcement on Wednesday. The lockdown will last three to four weeks and will include "schools, offices, construction and the manufacturing sector."

Essential shops, grocery stores, and pharmacies will be allowed to stay open.

The announcement comes as new daily cases in the province continue to break the 2,000 threshold, with the province's ministry of health calling the situation "out of control."

The province has seen 8,379 total deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The lockdown is expected to be implemented on Saturday.
