BREAKING: Trump threatens BRICS nations with 100% tariffs for trying to 'replace the mighty US dollar'

President-elect Donald Trump issued a stern warning to BRICS countries—which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa among others—over their reported efforts to reduce reliance on the US dollar.

In a statement shared on social media Saturday, Trump demanded a formal commitment from these nations to avoid creating a new BRICS currency or supporting any alternative to the dollar. Failure to comply, he said, would result in severe repercussions, including 100 percent tariffs and exclusion from the US market.

“The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER,” Trump wrote. “We require a commitment from these Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% Tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy. They can go find another ‘sucker!’ There is no chance that the BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, and any Country that tries should wave goodbye to America.”

Russia has previously sought to reduce reliance on the dollar in hopes of evading sanctions imposed by Western countries amid its invasion of Ukraine. According to a report by Reuters last month, the country has been seeking to convince BRICS nations to build an alternative platform for international payments.
