On Sunday, Omar Alghabra, the Minister of Transport, announced that the ban on arriving flights from India will be extended for another 30 days. Flights will be allowed from Pakistan, however, but passengers will have to be tested.
"Today we will also be renewing the flight ban between Canada to India for 30 days to July 21, 2021. This means direct commercial and private passenger flights from India will be continued to be denied permission to arrive in Canada," elaborated Alghabra at a press conference.
Also, passengers originating from India who fly in from a third country will also be required to get a PCR test before being admitted into Canadian territory.
The ongoing concern causing the extension of the ban and the further test requirements has to do with what has now been dubbed the "Delta variant" of COVID-19, which is believed to have originated in India.
The initial ban on travel from those countries was enacted on Apr. 22 2021, and already has been renewed several times, as COVID cases and deaths continue to surge in India.
