China sentences Canadian to death for drug related charges
A Canadian citizen has been sentenced to death after being charged with manufacturing ketamine as tensions run high between the countries.
A spokesman for China has suggested if Canada releases Meng back to China, they may release the two detained Canadians in return.
"We are of course, disappointed with the decision and the next step taken by the Chinese, in the case of the two Michaels, we offer all of our support and sympathies to the families," said Trudeau.
Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor have now spent 557 days in incarceration facilities and have now been charged with espionage by Chinese authorities.
