A Chicago mother successfully fended off an unidentified assailant who first offered to buy the mom's little girl and then tried to pull her hair and kidnap the child on Thursday.

According to the Daily Mail, the Chicago Police Department says a 20-to-25-year-old Hispanic male with red hair and a beard walked past the two, then approached the mom to offer her money for the child.

After the mother refused she started to walk along again, but did not hold her daughter's hand. It was at that moment the man grabbed at the little girl by the hair, with his fingers grazing the child's head. The mother was able to ward off the attempted abduction and briskly walk on with her offspring.

In Mayor Lori Lightfoot's Chicago, crime is up by 37 percent in 2022, with multitudes of shootings occuring every weekend in the city's southside. Crime has steadily increased since 2020 and the "defund the police" movement. The Daily Mail reports there has been a string of kidnappings in Chicago recently as another growing entry in the skyrocketing sky defining day-to-day life in the Windy City.

Thursday's kidnapping attempt incident took place on West Fullerton Avenue and North Leclaire Avenue at 11:58 am in the city's Belmont Cragin area.

The mother, carrying a backpack in the video, has not been identified nor has the little girl's age been released.

The suspect, who is described as five-foot-six to five-foot-seven, 150-to-160 pounds, and wearing a black t-shirt, a black baseball cap and red shorts, walks casually away after he fails at snatching the little girl.
