The Chinese embassy in Japan on Friday put out a tweet showing the US as a Grim Reaper visiting various countries and about to enter Egypt.

Another Chinese embassy in France tweeted the same image back in 2020 but with a slightly different list of countries, finishing off with the Ukraine and Venezuela for some reason. The final door being knocked on by the cartoon Grim Reaper is Hong Kong in this image. The French in the caption translates to "who is next?"

It appears that the former Chinese ambassador to Canada also tweeted the same image as above:

Jewish groups the world over are up in arms due to the fact that the scythe used by the Grim Reaper in the cartoon is an Israeli flag, as is circled in the above photo.

Japanese people on social media immediately took to trolling. One person put up a picture of tanks rolling over people in Tiananmen Square in 1989 in response to the tweet, referring to the Chinese government's famous crackdown on pro-democracy protestors at that time.

Another person put an image in reverse, with the Reaper in a Chinese flag, having visited Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong already and now knocking on Taiwan's door. This image could possibly be the original, which was altered:

Chinese authorities have claimed that all of the above accounts were hacked, and all of the tweets have since been deleted. This is despite the fact that the tweet from the French embassy went out almost a year ago.
