During the first week of the new year, scandal-riddled CNN has seen their viewership drop by a staggering 90 percent compared to the same week last year.

During the week of January 3, CNN averaged just 548,000 viewers, a huge drop from from the nearly 2.7 million viewers for the time frame in 2021, according to the Daily Mail.

CNN also lost 89 percent of its primetime viewers among its key demographic, and 91 percent of viewers ages 18 to 49.

Numbers for that week back at the beginning of 2021 were bolstered by coverage of the January 6 Capitol riot, which resulted in the network marking its most-watched day since its launch in 1980.

Despite the one year anniversary occurring during that week, Fox News came out on top, beating CNN and other networks to receive the highest ratings for coverage of the event.

CNN also saw a drastic dip in the key age demographic coveted by advertisers, the 25-to-54 demographic. Just 113,000 in that demographic watched last week on average, compared to 822,000 last year.

The network faced a number of high-profile scandals last year, most notably the firing of top-rated prime time host Chris Cuomo after it was revealed that he had helped his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, attempt to beat the sexual harassment allegations against him.

In February of 2021, Cuomo was barred from covering or interviewing his brother, after he failed to cover his brother’s nursing home scandal, after it was revealed that coronavirus-related deaths in nursing homes were underreported by a substantial amount.

Cuomo faced scandal again after it was revealed in May that he had advised his brother on how to deal with his sex scandals while continuing to cover his brother on his show. It would be alter in the year, in November, that additional details emerged showing that the younger Cuomo had a much larger role to play in aiding his brother through the scandal, using his influence and media connections to help his brother by finding information on his accusers.

The following month, Cuomo was fired from CNN after a short period of suspension.

"Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother's defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately," the official statement read.

Cuomo also faced a number of sexual harassment accusation during the year, one coming from a former colleague from when they worked together at ABC News in 2005, and another coming from an unnamed former junior colleague.

Another prominent CNN host, Don Lemon, was embroiled in scandal after it was revealed during the Jussie Smollett trial that Lemon had warned the Empire actor that Chicago Police Department investigators were beginning to doubt his claims of being attacked in an alleged hate crime.

Lemon also faces a lawsuit from a Hamptons bartender who claims that Lemon "intensely pushed his fingers against Plaintiff’s face under Plaintiff's nose, forcing Plaintiff's head thrust backward as Defendant repeatedly asked Plaintiff, 'Do you like p*ssy or d*ck?'" According to the lawsuit.

In the last few months of 2021, two CNN producers were accused of sexually abusing minors.

Rick Saleeby, the former senior producer for CNN's The Lead with Jake Tapper, is confirmed to be under a criminal investigation following a Project Veritas exposé which revealed credible allegations that Saleeby solicited sexually explicit photos of an underage girl.

John Griffin was arrested and indicted for abusing underage girls, using messaging platforms to entice parents and their daughters to come to his Virginia chateau sexual activity-based trainings.

He told the parents, "among other ideas," the indictment reads, "that a 'woman is a woman regardless of her age,' and that women should be sexually subservient and inferior to men."

"On these communication platforms," it continues, "Griffin sought to persuade parents to allow him to train their daughters to be sexually submissive. In June of 2020, Griffin advised a mother of 9- and 13-year-old daughters that the mother’s responsibility was to see that her older daughter was 'trained properly.'"

Media critics have slammed CNN President Jeff Zucker, accusing him of "protecting perverts and pedophiles."

"Given the sheer number of public sexual misconduct allegations – from harassment and child sexual violence to abusing one's journalistic credentials to try to silence women who have made allegations – it's fair to ask whether these are indicative of a broader cultural rot at the network that's being papered over as they focus on other priorities," journalist Drew Holden told Fox News last month.

"Zucker has managed to simultaneously protect perverts and pedophiles as well as oversee a massive decline in ratings," said Amber Athey, editor for the Spectator.
